Inside Adam’s Selection – How We Choose Products for Inner & Earth Harmony

An intimate, behind-the-scenes shot. Hands resting on a worn wooden desk, surrounded by a notebook with scribbled lists, material swatches, a small potted succulent, and the Adam’s Selection Refresh Bottle catching the light

The very first eco-friendly product I ever sourced is now in my “lessons learned” drawer.

It was beautiful. Ethically made. Ticked every box on paper. But after two weeks of real life… it was fussy. A nightmare to clean. It felt like a chore, not a friend. It taught me a big lesson: if something doesn’t add to your peace, it can’t really be good for the planet. I learned that the hard way. 🥹

Which is why, at Adam’s Selection, that idea sits right at our core. We believe your calm and the Earth’s health are one conversation. So when we look for products, we’re listening to that whole story.

So… how do we choose? It’s less like a checklist and more like getting to know someone. We ask every potential product a few real questions. In many ways, it grows from the same thinking behind Living with Less Without Going to Extremes and 7 Tiny Eco Habits That Add Up to a Big Difference in a Year.

A flat-lay of the product evaluation process: a handwritten checklist titled “Does It Belong?”, fabric swatches, a sample cork lid, the Refresh Bottle, and a cup of tea

The Four Things Every Product Must Have

  1. Will it last?
We look for things that are built well, age nicely, and can stay with you for years. We’d rather you buy one thing once than ten “eco” things that break in a month.
  2. Can it be refilled or fixed?
Does it say “no” to the bin? We’re always drawn to products that support reuse, refill, repair, or long life. That same mindset sits behind Your Refillable Life: How Small Reuse Habits Change the Bigger Picture.
  3. Do we know its story?
Where did it come from? Who made it? We love simple, natural materials—like glass, cork, and organic cotton—where the story feels clearer and more honest.
  4. Does it feel good?
This is the secret one. Does using it feel like a small sigh of relief? Does it fit into a calm ritual, or does it feel like another task? If it doesn’t spark a little joy or calm… it’s not for us. Simple.

Think of it like a filter. Lots of products come in, but only the ones that pass these four things make it to you.

This whole idea comes from believing that inner peace and loving the Earth are connected. It’s why we’ll always choose quiet, useful things over flashy trends. And it’s why our best choices often sit inside ordinary life—at your desk, in your kitchen, by your bedside—just like the gentle shifts we’ve explored in Gentle Eco Swaps in the Kitchen – Where We Started at Adam’s Selection and Slow Evenings – A Gentle Guide to Winding Down Without Your Phone.

We don’t have all the answers. We’re figuring it out in real time, wrestling with questions like, “Is local better than organic if it comes from far away?” We promise to be honest about that journey with you.

This isn’t some secret club. You’re part of this with us. Every time you choose something from us, you’re joining this quiet experiment in living more kindly.
